another genius use of copyright infringement... music by RX, video by Etherworks. this piece was introduced to me by RiP! A Remix Manifesto... in this mashup, words from Bush are cut and mashed with the classic Beatles song, Imagine. amazing! and if you like that, you might also be interested in the Sunday, Bloody Sunday mashup.
Negativland – U2 vs Casey Kasem (mashup)
i was turned on to this mashup by the documentary, RiP! A Remix Manifesto... Negativland found an audio recording of a ranting Casey Kasem on a bad day at work... swearing and everything! the rant was then mashed with a U2 song... which quickly led to a lawsuit...
RiP! A Remix Manifesto
i watched RiP! A Remix Manifesto on Hulu for the first time last night... what a great exploration of the recording industry! Girl Talk is a large part of the focus of the movie - understandably, as he is well known for dissecting the most minute snippets of pop songs and mashing them together - obviously a concern for copyright enthusiasts. the movie is really well done. definitely worth a watch. i'll be posting a couple more interesting things they mentioned in the movie, later on today. oh- and coincidentally enough, without knowing Amp Live would be on the film, i was pleasantly surprised to see that the documentary spent some time on him and the legal battle he incurred with the company that owns the rights to Radiohead's songs... Radiohead retaliated by making their work available for free! seriously - if you have some time, watch this movie!!
