WebUrbanist has a great collection of abandoned towns and cities across the world, each with their own story to tell.  from abandoned mines to gulags to Alexandira, a city that seemingly disappeared until just 16 years ago....   some of these places are submerged, being swallowed by water or are slowly being covered by sand. what an interesting collection of history!
