Casa Kimball
for $4,000/day or a mere $24,500/week you can escape the monotony of life and relax in an other worldly setting in the Caribbean. the infinity pool alone had me salivating, much less the cliff side jacuzzi or the extravagant interior. Casa Kimball, the newest entry on my vacation getaway list.
Embassy of the Drowned Nations
likening itself to a more progressive Ellis Island and a blend of Atlantis and Eden, Sydney, Australia is opening its arms to embrace not the tired, the poor or the hungry (although i'm sure those are factors) rather, they want to welcome nations of people displaced by rising sea levels. the idea is that Fort Dennison will transform into the Embassy of the Drowned Nations to serve as an interim between displacement and stable relocation on the mainland. should the concept make it to development, millions of people are expected to flock to the embassy as they seek food, shelter and stability. truly thought provoking, i urge you to read more about the project (click on the images to progress) and take a look at the detailed information contained within the proposal (topography, architecture, energy, etc.). the idea was generated for An International Urban Sea Level Rise Ideas Competition for Sydney Harbor.

Castello di Vicarello
while we're on the subject of fantastic retreats, i'd like to introduce you to Castello di Vicarello in Maremma, Tuscany... the hideout Pacino would have preferred. from The Cool Hunter:
Castello di Vicarello is the kind of place you dream about. Movies and novels describe such places but you don’t really believe they exist. Too good to be true. But Castello di Vicarello is definitely real and it has been so since 1100. The castle sits on a hill overlooking the Maremma countryside in southern Tuscany, and it offers absolutely everything that any of your senses would want of a Tuscan vacation.
The Islands of Copperfield Bay
David Copperfield may very well have created heaven on earth. i don't know what more to say. this place looks jaw-droppingly beautiful and serene. your own personal sanctuary, the Islands of Copperfield Bay are everything you've ever dreamed of! from the site:
Private sun warms your face and private waves lap your feet. A private moon lights your plate, and private seas surround you. this is Musha Cay and the Islands of Copperfield Bay. Surely it's one of the most secluded spots on earth, yet everything you want is provided... then quietly, unobtrusively, replenished.
Cardok
Cardok is a subterranean garage... don't worry, there's a backup generator to help your car out if the power fails.
Christoph Gielen
Christoph is one of those photographers who finds amusement in aerial studies of infrastructure. he has this to say on his About page:
Christoph Gielen was born in Bonn, Germany, but has lived in New York most of his life. He specializes in conducting photographic aerial studies of infrastructure in its relation to land use, exploring the intersection of art and environmental politics. With his work, Gielen hopes to trigger a reevaluation of our built environment, to ask: What kind of development can be considered sustainable?
