Sean Pecknold

Sean Pecknold is the older brother of Robin Pecknold, front man for The Fleet Foxes. Sean is the creative genius behind the AMAZING Fleet Foxes videos i posted about here and here. what’s even more amazing than his work is the length of time in which the videos are created… Beautiful/Decay Magazine has a great interview with Sean and insightful “making of” footage for The Fleet Foxes videos and others. DEFINITELY worth a look!!  also be sure to check out his collaboration on MILK and his company By Grandchildren.

Jim Stoten – Doodling With Intention

by L.A. on May.30, 2009, under art, video

i love the simplicity of this interview – it’s like you’re just chillin with Jim for a few minutes.  Don’t Panic Magazine sat down with Jim Stoten and asked him to draw something for them in two hours.  the result is fantastic!  hear great quotes from Jim: “i don’t know why i drew all those things, i just did.”  “this is doodling with an intention.” AND who doesn’t love penguins??

what a great song! the video does a remarkable job of seeming soothing when with friends and using color to show confusion/hysteria. kind of like the phrase, “smelled like sauce but tasted like apple Schnapps.” hehe..

Alinka Echeverria

Alinka Echeverria directed this underwater ballet; synchronized swimming that often makes it hard for the viewer to determine whether the swimmers are dancing on top of or underneath the water.

Grain Surboards

by L.A. on May.29, 2009, under sports

Grain Surboards

Maine is producing some eco-friendly surfboards! the boards are made from sustainable white cedar…. what better  way to catch the waves, brah?   i love the description of theirwork:

Though not always to our customers’ advantage, Grain’s surfboards are designed by people who surf every time there are waves, from wind-slop to groundswell. But when it’s flat, we’re knee-deep in our second-favorite thing to do: building wood boards that let surfers lessen their impact on the planet, and surf a great board.

Glowing Animals

by L.A. on May.28, 2009, under art

Glowing Animals

what a beautiful photo! (of mice) yes…. National Geographic has a bunch of photos of animals that were genetically altered with flourescent colors.  the ones above are what a Harvard team dubbed, “Brainbow.”  from the site:

How does it glow?

Cyan, red, and yellow fluorescent proteins, injected into DNA in embryos (2007)

What can we learn?

A Harvard team working with mice invented the “brainbow.” When three different colors of fluorescent protein–cyan, red, and yellow–were introduced into a mouse embryo, the individual neurons of the mouse’s brain became one of 90 different colors.

In addition to looking fantastic, the psychedelic mouse minds will likely lend insight into how brains work.

LOVE this trailer…. so retro, so Bond, so VERY good!!  from Vimeo:

“A Kiss From Tokyo”, Theatrical Trailer (1964) – Yuki 7 dashes around the world in hot pursuit of the tantalizingly tricky Diamond Eye, who is stealing parts and plans and leaving behind a path of murdered scientists in her quest to build a missile inside her volcanic lair.

This animation is a part of a promotional event about the release of Kevin’s new book, “Seductive Espionage, the world of Yuki 7″ which will happen this summer.
